What are the AID Games?
The AIDS GAMES is a collaboration of events geared to bring hope to people living with the virus, syndrome and affected advocates. This is a Four-day celebration of civil rights victories and medical achievements made in regards to the pandemic. We celebrate by having contestants run, walk, play dodge ball, basketball, kick ball or recite poetry in competition against one another then end in a fashion show. The winners receive medallions as tribute to their success. Keep in mind...everything is about HIV/AIDS.
We chose inclusive sports but added an HIV twist to it. Kick ball isn't just...kick ball. The ball is called, "AIDS" and the baseball park is called, "The Community". So, in essence when you kick the ball out of the park you're kicking AIDS out of the community. Dodge ball, the ball is called, "Ignorance and Stigma" so you are dodging ignorance and stigma. Get it? That's not all; we have an ending to inspire thought amongst future generations.
The event commences with the unveiling of the "Quilt of Hope". We burn flowers and as the ashes ascend, we say names of those who have passed during the struggle for the cure.
Following the medal presentation, we once again give tribute to those who have paved the way for breakthroughs in this fight; both living and passed, by presenting the 2015 quilt for the next AIDS Games.
Let's make this historical!
Taking competitors from all around the globe and pitting them not against each but one virus. The goal is to bring the attention of yesteryear to this year. We need the world paying attention and being educated about this virus.
Take part of this historical movement.
